We Face-Hug the Profile of One Film Soon to Come Out -- Alien: Covenant

And fitting we do given we just made it past the anniversary of one other "little" known film: Alien by Ridley Scott. Yes, we've got some goods on the film currently wrapped with the shooting, the sequel to the somewhat less-than-jaw-dropping (but in my eyes, still mesmerizing and thought-provoking) Prometheus. Already we're pretty much clear that while the first film released recently was a bit of an origin story, Covenant takes us further -- and deeper -- into that darkness we so love about the Alien franchise --

And According to One Michael Fassbender, It's Going to Be "Super Scary"

Come now. Let's not over-sell it, Magneto. You are, after all, a synthetic. Still, though, it's Magneto, man! The dude who'll spearhead flippin' Assassin's Creed! There's some cred to what he's saying, and once again, we should all be positive that this will be the Alien we've wanted to see since James Cameron tackled the sequel (although I have some honorable love for Alien III, but Alien: Resurrection royally poured acid blood into my mouth, and that's not a good thing). "This ‘Alien’ is going to be… I’m very excited to see it and everybody in the film was saying this is a film that we all want to see. It’s much scarier than ‘Prometheus’ but it’s got the same sort of scope of ‘Prometheus’. It’s kind of got more of the sort of thriller, imminent disaster feel that ‘Alien’ had, so it’s kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films. I’m really excited to see it, I think it’s gonna be super scary number one and then again with the massive scope of ‘Prometheus’… Once it starts and the ball starts rolling, it doesn’t let up. It’s really gonna bring chills to the cinema."

Okay. That's sayin' a lot. What I'm getting, though, is that the true scares we get from horror ideally would come from a strong build-up, and that's exactly what Fassbender's talking about right here.

"Prometheus" Built It Up, and "Covenant" Just Might Blow It Up

We can say the same for the original Alien: the eerie and raw, quiet setting certainly set the stage for Cameron's space marines to knock the pins all down with fierce, thrilling awe. Fassbender might just be right.... Will "Alien: Covenant" knock it out the ballpark?

We shall see....
