The Age of the Ingenious Horror Movie Short

Seriously, check out YouTube for yourself and simply type in "horror short," and you'll not only be flooded by the beginning of it all ("Lights Out," anyone?), but a slew of other delightful treats also inspired by something we've been seeing in film, like "The ABCs of Death" and "VHS." They're called "horror movie shorts."

And They've Brought About Some of the Most Inspiring Pieces of Horror You Can Imagine

Arguably inspiring even some films to take cues and expand on the ideas (hence, the feature film based on the now iconic short "Lights Out").... I've already mentioned it, but I think the reason why they're so well received is that compact nature of the storytelling. There's no muddling or sub-plotting going on.

It's just a simple idea. A scary idea. And that idea is played out in such simplistic fashion, bringing about the chills in one blow, versus any sub-standard horror film bringing them about in multiple 'little' blows. There's a certain je ne sais quoi about stunning you all in one shot. Like a yellowjacket from Hell.

Which Is Why I Have to Present This Little Gem of Horror....

And arguably some of you may have already seen it, but it's a taste of what's really out there, and you should explore. Search YouTube. You'll find shadows lurking. Great filmmakers. Great ideas. And an even greater darkness.
