M. Night Shyamalan's Comeback Glory? SPLIT (I'm Split on That)

I don't care what people say: I adore M. Night Shyamalan. He's creative. He's a risk-taker. He's game for breaking the mold. That, however, resulted in some major duds coming out of his directorial duties after practically knocking it out of the ballpark with "The Sixth Sense," "Unbreakable" and even "Signs." However....

He Just Might Have a Winner With SPLIT

Simple title. Strong. Visceral even. And groundbreaking. And it's quite the character vehicle for one X-Men in a wheelchair, Mr. James McAvoy (do you see those freakin' forehead veins, man?), literally playing it up in a way that absolutely has to be Oscar worthy. I mean, it has to be! Check out the most recent trailer of SPLIT to get what I mean:

I don't know about you, but that's pretty intense. Something like "Kiss the Girls" meets "Sybil" on freakin' acid. I'm game. And you know Shyamalan sort of earned some of that clever indie favor with the surprise sleeper to a certain extent, "The Visit," reinvigorating the tired idea of the found footage cinematic phenomenon. And then this is what Shyamalan's got coming next?

This Might Be a Return to Form for M. Night Shyamalan

Or it just might be a dud again (like the remake of Rocky Horror). Who knows. We'll see from the critics. We can't exactly judge a book by its cover (or a movie by its trailer). One thing's for sure, though -- Shyamalan nailed the character(s) with the study and performance of McAvoy. And that might make all the difference.
