Here Are the Top 3 Kid Horror TV Shows of All Time (and One of Them Might Surprise You)

I have to say, I don't know what it is about horror and kids, or the family-friendly mentality of what is too gory or a little too much for children to watch. But the fact is this: kids seem to love getting scared out of their minds! It's been a phenomenon since the very beginning, the advent of media. Even from the time when radio became the golden age.

Kids Would Rush to the Living Room Not to Turn the Boob Tube on, But the Radio, Just to Listen to Scary Shows

Something about the adrenaline, maybe. Got ingrained in our psyche, our very blood. Scary stories were common back then. You go to camp, you get a flashlight and shine it from under your chin -- and you became a hideous Shakespeare. You know you love that. I'm taking you back to those nights.
Those beautiful, frightening nights.

Without a doubt, the idea of the kid horror show, or film, or book, grew and grew. Arguably grew bigger than anything mainstream in the genre when you think about it. Yes, we loved the whole Freddy Krueger thing, and reading Shelley's "Frankenstein" or "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" truly was the bomb for lots of us kids (wish authors of today would still produce awesome stuff like that for our kids, but I'm willing to bet you could still find some golden gems out there).

That being said, the childhood chillers of yesterday really still do exist today with new stories, charming the chills out of children endlessly, so needless to say for those loving the silver screen at home, here are the top 3 TV SHOWS I'm pretty sure you know you'd absolutely love if you were one of those same kids loving the hairs on the back of your neck standing on end:

  • Goosebumps -- Obviously, right? The books were a staple in libraries, book stores, book shelves, and bookbags for the longest time. But the TV show? (and, of course, the most recent film, which will have a sequel) Great stuff.
  • Are You Afraid of the Dark? -- Willing to bet a lot of you don't even remember this Nickelodeon gem, a bit of an homage to the style of Goosebumps with a bit of an edge, and here's the coolest thing you need to know about this brand right here.
  • Stranger Things(???) -- Yes. You absolutely can't not include this Netflix show, and I know what you're thinking.... "It's not for kids!" Oh, but it is. And here's why.

And this list, you know, is ironclad, for good reason. Over the decades, there have been a lot of other shows out there. Not nearly as recognizable and good as these three. Obviously.

Even Today, as the Old Man That I Am, I'd Always Have the Pleasure of Sitting Down on the Couch With the Lights Off.... Watching Some "Goosebumps"

We really don't need 'gore' (don't get me wrong, I love me some splatterpunk). All we need is that slight suspense, the kind of suspense that'll make a kid jump out of his/her PJs. And for me, that feeling.... That just makes me smile, and maybe laugh, as I'm watching something that, of course, charmed me back in the day. Good memories.

Potentially very good. See below. It turns out that the announcement is official according to the Carrie Bradshaw of the Sanderson bunch (Sarah Jessica Parker): there will be a "Hocus Pocus" sequel, premiering on Disney+.
