9 Most Groundbreaking Horror Movie Shorts of All Time (and Counting)

By and counting, obviously that means that by the time we're done writing this, we could easily expand the list to include as many as a dozen, maybe more. Horror movie shorts are trailblazing, and it shows. We spoke about the age of the horror movie short, but we've never expected this level ingenuity, imagination and thrill.

Okay, Maybe We Did Expect It! Are You Surprised?

We're not. It's obvious that this particular format shines well when focused on a singular idea, a basic story meant to chill you to the bone. The big reason why these resonate so well is that they stick a lot more than some images or sounds spread out over an hour or two. When you tighten up the ambiance to just a dozen minutes or so, well.... It definitely hits you on the head.

These are horror movie shorts you have to check out, and there's quite a variety. You've got some that are true homages to the quite possibly the pioneer of them all, Lights Out, and others that transcend into something a bit more philosophical-psychological. They're all groundbreaking, however. So check out all of them (but take a Valium before you do).

The Smiling Man

Alone

The Long Walk

Bloody Mary

Snap Trap

Don't Move

The Armoire

The Jigsaw

Mr. Creak

Did You Take That Valium Already?

If not, good luck going to sleep tonight....
