Stephen King‘s “The Stand” has been a hot topic of discussion ever since the coronavirus began ravaging the United States, with many – including King himself – comparing the fictional events of the epic novel to the very real events playing out before us today. Of course, as King has been quick to point out, the novel’s pandemic is (thankfully) a whole lot worse.
In any event, it’s interesting that CBS All Access was filming an adaptation of King’s “The Stand” at the time productions across the world were forced to shut down, with Josh Boone (The New Mutants) at the helm. As noted in a piece run by Vanity Fair, the series was mostly finished and will still be airing as planned, and we’ve got some first look photos today.
The series will bring to life King’s vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.
The cast includes Alexander Skarsgård as Randall Flagg and Whoopi Goldberg as Mother Abagail, and Vanity Fair’s piece provides us with our first look at those characters and more. You can check out some of the images that originally ran in their piece below, and we encourage you to head over to Vanity Fair to learn/see much more from the upcoming show.
The cast also includes Jovan Adepo, Owen Teague, Greg Kinnear, Brad William Henke, Nat Wolff, Daniel Sunjata, James Marsden, Amber Heard, Odessa Young, Eion Bailey, Katherine McNamara, Heather Graham, Marilyn Manson, Hamish Linklater and Henry Zaga. Showrunners for “The Stand” are Benjamin Cavell and Taylor Elmore (“Justified”).
