Nicole Kidman Haunter ‘The Others’ Also Being Developed Into a Series

One of the big draws for horror fans when The Others was released in theaters back in 2001 was that it was rumored to carry the trailer debut of Halloween: Resurrection, I previously noted. With or without Michael Myers, the film starring Nicole Kidman managed a whopping $200 million worldwide on a reported $17m budget. Its success came on the heels of M. Night Shyamalan’s The Sixth Sense.

Back in April, it was reported by Deadline that as the film neared its 20th anniversary, LA-based Sentient Entertainment won the remake rights to Alejandro Amenabar’s timely self-isolation tale about a war widow who hides her children away in an isolated mansion due to a rare disease characterized by photosensitivity.  The arrival of three mysterious servants unlocks the house’s terrifying secrets.

Variety now has fresh news out of Cannes that Miami-based BTF Media has snagged the series format rights from FilmSharks subsidiary the Remake Co. and Enrique Cerezo’s Video Mercury Films.

“We are honored to bring an unimaginable remake for the Spanish-speaking audience,” said BTF Media’s Ivonne Vela, adding: “It is incredible how a story written 20 years ago is still resonating today: Themes such as self-isolation, paranoia and fear, together with the intense desire to protect our children and ourselves from harm are more current than ever.”

So, yes, there is both an English-language remake in the works alongside a “The Others” series. Let’s see if both came come to fruition and which is the first to do so.
