The horror genre has shown many times over the years that if you take a concept, and subvert the audience’s expectations, you generally have a good chance of people standing up and taking notice. That’s what Assemble Entertainment are looking to do with the recently-released visual text adventure, The Innsmouth Case.
If you’re up on you HP Lovecraft, you know where this is going. Or so you think. You see, rather than your traditional Lovecraftian horror, The Innsmouth Case looks to the lighter side of things. Combining horror and comedy, you play as a detective who is tasked to find a missing child named Tabitha Marsh. Tabitha was last seen in the town of Innsmouth, which just so happens to be filled with your typical Lovecraftian tropes.
And while you can meet your demise numerous times during the game, The Innsmouth Case also utilizes offbeat humour to add levity to the circumstances. That, and the fact that the game features twenty seven different endings that run the gamut should keep you busy. The game is available now on Steam, and with the current Summer Sale, you can snag it for 20% off.
And, if you’re still not sure, you can always try the game’s demo.
