Recreate Paranoia and Horror of ‘The Thing’ and ‘Alien’ With ‘Unfortunate Spacemen’ on Steam

John Carpenter’s The Thing is a classic, which should come as no surprise. The video game adaptation was (for its time) not too shabby, either. And amongst their announcements last week, New Blood Interactive have released what can be seen as a send-up to the paranoia that Outpost 31 experienced in Unfortunate Spacemen.

Released for free (yes, you read that right) on Steam, Unfortunate Spacemen is an asymmetrical multiplayer experience where a crew of up to 15 spacemen await rescue from their crumbling outpost in space. And as expected, a shapeshifting monster has snuck in, able to perfectly mimic the other spacemen. You can guess what happens next.

The crew has two options: Complete objectives and activate the distress signal, or hunt down the monster. Or, if you’re that type of person, as the monster, you lay traps, disguise yourself as other players, or take them head-on. If, for some reason, you’re not a fan of this, you can also play the game’s included Co-op Story Mode or the Survival Mode. As you play, you’ll improve your rank and gain access to upgrades and cosmetic items.

Did we mention that this is all free? Hit up that Steam link.
