A24’s Latest Screenplay Book Celebrates ‘Hereditary’ With New Writing from Ari Aster

A24 just released its fourth screenplay book from their new publishing arm A24 Books, this one celebrating Hereditary, the debut feature film by Midsommar writer-director Ari Aster.

“A collectible object for the home and a primer for aspiring filmmakers, the book features a foreword by Bong Joon Ho, Academy Award-winning director of Parasite (2019), and a new essay by Leslie Jamison, author of The Empathy Exams (2014).”

“Along with the full Hereditary screenplay, the book also includes Ari Aster’s detailed breakdown of the film’s harrowing family séance scene, revealing his method of writing thorough shot lists before each film.”

The 240-page hardcover book is available to purchase ($60) exclusively at shop.a24films.com.

A24 has also released high-end screenplay books celebrating Alex Garland’s Ex Machina, Robert Eggers’ The Witch, and Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight. They explain, “Every book elevates and amplifies each filmmaker’s creative vision, enhanced by original writing courtesy of contemporary voices in film, literature, music, science, and more. Each book includes the unabridged screenplay, full credits, as well as a visual section entitled “24 Frames”—a selection of handpicked, full-color frames with particular significance to the director.”
