During the anniversary stream celebrating four years of Dead by Daylight, Behaviour Interactive had dropped news that they were planning to expand the Cross-Play feature in the game. As such, the team recently elaborated more on the topic in a new blog post.
“Ten months ago, we introduced Cross-Play on PC with the release of the game on the Windows Store. Cross-play was already on our minds even before this release and thus linking these two platforms together came naturally,” explains Behaviour. From there, the two most requested topics for the feature were a Cross-Friends feature (allowing you to play with your friends across different platforms), and Cross-Progression.
Cross-Friends was already live on Windows Store & Steam as a beta test, and is now being prepared for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players. “As we are still monitoring the situation and numbers on PC, we cannot give you a specific date for now, but we can definitely say it is coming really soon!”
As for Cross-Progression, Behaviour is “preparing the first steps” for the feature for Steam, Google Stadia and Nintendo Switch in September. This will allow players to share their progression, purchases, and inventory on those three platforms (albeit with some exceptions, due to licensing issues). However, Behaviour does state that Cross-Progression is still an obstacle on other platforms, and unfortunately has “no guarantee that it will happen”, but are trying to make it work.
In order for Cross-Progression to work, however, the team has has to “build a brand new ecosystem”, which will involve players having to create a Behaviour Account to link their progression so that their servers can merge your accounts. ”All our efforts will be focused on monitoring account merging to ensure that players will not have any issue during that complex process.”
Dead by Daylight is out now on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and coming to Google Stadia in September.
