Admittedly, things haven’t sounded very good for Ice-Pick Lodge and Pathologic 2, what with the studio running low on funds and disappointing sales. But the studio or the game aren’t finished yet. In fact, the team has announced four projects, including the continuation of Pathologic 2!
For the time being, the studio is keeping things close to their chest in terms of release dates, but things are happening later this year, so we’re advised to “stay tuned”.
With that out of the way, here’s what’s going on: The first project is decidedly non horror. Know by Heart, which is set for release on PC, PS4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch, concerns a man named Misha, who is about to reunite with his childhood friends after spending a long time apart. They revisit old memories, rediscover common ground, and rekindle their friendship. That is, until something beyond their control threatens their reunion.
The next game is a bio-horror title for Android and iOS entitled Neuro Skazka. Created by Nemo Soda, the game deals with the evolution of a universe grown below the cranial vault of a god which falls asleep. The god’s brain is an equivalent of a solar system, and planets are its neurons. The player will have to turn the celestial bodies into full-fledged anthropomorphic creatures endowed with mind and identity.
Another mobile title, Franz is the creation of Nikolai Dybovski, where the main idea is to test the limits of control. It is a variation of a Chinese room argument that was first presented by philosopher John Searle. The concept is focused on criticism of artificial intelligence and how it is being perceived by a neutral observer.
Lastly is the continuation of Pathologic 2 with the “Bachelor’s scenario”. Ice-Pick Lodge aren’t saying much at this point, other than “[raising] the bar higher” than the initial release. At the moment, the team is looking to make the gameplay “quite different from the one you’ve experienced during the Haruspex”. The script is still being written, though we will see the title in the “foreseeable future”.
At the moment, Pathologic 2 is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam, with the Steam version having a 58% discount until July 9th.
