Lars Klevberg Still Wants to Make a ‘Child’s Play’ Sequel

It’s no secret that director Lars Klevberg wants to get back behind the camera for a sequel to his Child’s Play, last year’s remake which offered up a fresh spin on the original that could easily be carried over into the next installment.

The film wasn’t exactly a booming success, but its $45M global box office take was enough to recoup MGM/Orion’s $10M budget and additional marketing expenses. Those numbers are good enough to, at the very least, have internal discussions about a sequel.

Since nothing has been announced, it’s hard to believe that MGM/Orion’s incarnation of Child’s Play will continue forward anytime soon, but Klevberg is still holding out hope.

“It would be amazing to pull the crew and the actors back for another one, but MGM needs to get their stuff together and do it,” he stated on IG. “It’s all there.”

It truly is all there, considering all the crazy new shit that was injected into the remake (no spoilers here!). The question remains, is the franchise financially viable enough for the studio, and also, does it line up with what they’re trying to do under their new leadership? Only time will tell.

With that said, it’s also nice to know that Orion/MGM’s Child’s Play can coexist with creator Don Mancini’s canonized series that will continue over at Universal with more films and at USA/Syfy, who are behind the “Chucky” series set for a 2021 release.

What did you think of the Child’s Play remake? Do you want to see a sequel?
