In double whammy news, not only has FromSoftware done it again with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice in terms of sales figures, but fans can also look forward to a new free update this Halloween.
First off, Activision and developer FromSoftware have announced that the award-winning Soulslike game has sold over five million copies across consoles and PC since its launch back in March 2019. The second bit of news is the “Additional Features Update”, which is arriving on October 29th, which adds the ability to fight previously defeated bosses, change the Wolf’s outward appearance, and send recordings of your actions to other players.
Called the Reflection of Strength/Gauntlet of Strength, this is essentially Sekiro’s Boss Rush Mode. Reflection of Strength allows you to revisit individual battles, while Gauntlet of Strength has you taking on the bosses in consecutive order on just one life.
The two Boss Rush Modes also tie into the unlockable costumes for Wolf. While purely cosmetic, players can earn three unlockable costumes, with the first two requiring the player to beat the Gauntlets, while the third can be earned by beating the game.
Lastly, taking a cue from Dark Souls is the new Remnants system, where players can record their actions to allow other players to see pitfalls and potential strategies. The recordings can be up to 30 seconds in length, and can be uploaded along with a written message so that other community members can play it back. If a community member watches and then rates a Remnant, the owner of it will have their HP recover for free, allowing them to get back into the fight quicker without the use of items.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam worldwide, and is coming to Stadia this fall.
