During the HBO Max: “Looney Tunes Cartoons” panel at the virtual Comic-Con@Home over the weekend, new “Tunes” cartoon “Postalgeist” made its worldwide debut, centered on Porky & Daffy and their trip to a haunted hotel. Yes, a brand spankin’ new “Looney Tunes” cartoon that just so happens to be horror-themed, and it’s available to watch right now!
“Postalgeist” was directed by David Gemmill, and written by Gemmill alongside Ryan Khatam, Johnny Ryan and Alex Kirwan. Peter Browngardt was the executive producer.
“It was just honing in on the aesthetic that I loved,” Browngardt explained during the panel, talking about new HBO Max series “Looney Tunes Cartoons” as well as setting the stage for the debut of the short we’re profiling here today. “Trying to recapture that visual look and style from the ’30s, ’40s, and ’50s. And trying to recreate it in this modern age.”
Kirwan added, “We wanted to tap into the zany energy of that 1940s stuff.”
In the animated short, a ghost living inside the Terror Inn unleashes supernatural hell on Porky and Daffy, though Daffy – initially, at least – seems immune to the spooky spirits that reside within. Porky, meanwhile, is appropriately scared out of his wits throughout, the duo eventually reaching Room 237 – wink, wink – and unlocking a fun final twist to the terror tale.
The cartoon begins at 20-minutes into the full panel video below!
