Annabelle Wallis Says James Wan’s New Horror Movie ‘Malignant’ is “Brave” and “Genre-Bending”

There was a time when James Wan‘s new horror movie Malignant was being released into theaters *this weekend*, but that was a very different time. Last we heard, WB/New Line have pushed the movie off their release schedule completely for the time being, likely to come up with a new date once the future of the theatrical business looks a bit more clear.

In the meantime, star Annabelle Wallis (Annabelle, The Mummy) has opened up a bit about the film in a new chat with THR this week, teasing a “brave” new vision from Wan.

I think we have something very special. I think it’s genre-bending. I think it’s so brave. It’s so original. I just haven’t read anything like it,” Wallis raved to the outlet.

She continued, “And you know, again, I’m at a place in my life and my career where it’s time to be brave. It’s time to push. And I think it’s really going to be something that audiences are pretty wowed by because it’s a real passion project for him. So, I’m very excited. Yeah, let’s see! That’s what good art and good cinema is.”

Described as an original thriller not based on any existing IP, we’re told that the film is going to be part of the Giallo sub-genre.

Malignant‘s plot is being kept under wraps.

The cast includes Maddie HassonMckenna GraceAnnabelle Wallis, Jake AbelGeorge YoungIngrid BisuMichole Briana White and Jacqueline McKenzie.

Wan directed off a screenplay by Akela Cooper and JT Petty with story by Wan and Ingrid Bisu.
