Dave Franco’s Horror Movie ‘The Rental’ Tops the Weekend Box Office Alongside ‘Jaws’ and ‘Gremlins’

For the second weekend in a row, Dave Franco‘s IFC Films slasher The Rental is at the top of the box office charts, scaring up another $290,300 this past Friday through Sunday.

Now playing mostly at drive-in theaters across the United States, 242 theaters in total, Franco’s directorial debut had pulled in an impressive $403,852 in its opening weekend.

Worldwide, the film has now crossed the $1 million mark.

Reported by Deadline, the Top 10 for the weekend also included classic films such as The Goonies, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Back to the Future, Dirty Dancing and Gremlins.

Alison Brie (“GLOW”), Dan Stevens (The Guest), Sheila Vand (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night) and Jeremy Allen White (“Shameless”) star in The Rental.

Here’s the official plot rundown…

The Rental is a character-driven horror thriller about two couples who rent a vacation home for what should be a celebratory weekend get-away.

“Two couples looking to celebrate their seed money from a new business venture embark on a weekend getaway to a seemingly perfect house they’ve booked online. But what begins as a festive weekend for the four close friends turns into something far more sinister as secrets they’ve kept from each other are exposed and paranoia grows that they may not be alone.”

Check drive-in locations and book your stay at The Rental today.

The film is also now available for VOD streaming.
