‘Demon’s Souls’ Multiplayer Lives Again, Thanks to Emulator RPCS3

It’s been a known fact for some time that games with an online component will eventually have their servers shut down, and you’ll be left with a game, that while still playable, has a hole left behind. That’s been the case for Demon’s Souls players ever since the official servers shut down back in 2018. Luckily, thanks to the miracle that is emulation, there is hope.

Announced on the Demon’s Souls Reddit, one of the furthest-developed PS3 emulators, RPCS3, combined with a PSN server replacement tool called RPCN, has managed to get a private server going that swaps with the original PSN server. This effectively allows emulated games, not just Demon’s Souls, to regain their multiplayer functionality.

It’s not out-of-the-box playable, as you’ll have to do some tweaking on your end to get it to connect properly. But thankfully, the process is detailed in the original Reddit post. Best of all, you’ll be able to enjoy some cross-platform interaction between those on PS3 and those using RPCS3. The two groups will be able to share messages and bloodstains, but lack the ability to share their ghosts (for now).

If you lack the workhorse PC to emulate Demon’s Souls, don’t worry. The Archstones, a private server dedicated to preserving the multiplayer aspect for Demon’s Souls, is able to fill the void.

As for other Demon’s Souls news, the recently-announced remake by BluePoint Studios is currently in development for the PlayStation 5.
