What if Friday the 13th, at the height of the franchise’s popularity in the ’80s, had been turned into an animated series for kids? It’s of course an absurd thing to even ponder, and I say that as someone who’s well aware that the similarly rated “R” Rambo franchise actually did become an animated series in the late ’80s. Hey, it was a crazy time. Anything was possible.
Of course, Friday the 13th never became an animated series and surely never will, but at least we can pretend. Artist Mike Chiechi is playing that very game of pretend over on his Facebook page Franks Kid this week, uploading a hilarious and pitch perfectly period-authentic intro video for a faux ’80s animated series titled “Jason and Friends,” a slasher show for kids!
Jason Voorhees stars in the faux “Jason and Friends,” alongside the disembodied head of his deceased mother and even a canine companion who also wears a hockey mask.
Alas, even in animated form, the big guy refuses to play nice…
