HBO’s new horror-drama series “Lovecraft Country,” based on Matt Ruff’s novel, got off to one hell of a good start last night, introducing the cast of characters, faithfully adapting the first 60 pages of the book, and unleashing gruesome all-out monster mayhem. If the premiere was any indication, Misha Green‘s series is taking the novel to a whole nother level.
Lovecraftian weirdness collides with Jim Crow-era racial tensions in “Lovecraft Country,” with new episodes premiering every Sunday night. Preview the upcoming episodes below.
The series follows Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he joins up with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father (Michael Kenneth Williams).
This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from an H.P. Lovecraft paperback.
