Melissa Barrera is the First New Face to Join the Upcoming ‘Scream’ Movie

Both Courteney Cox and David Arquette have already been confirmed to reprise their iconic roles in next year’s brand new Scream movie, and we’ve learned today that Melissa Barrera (“Vida,” In the Heights) has signed on to star alongside returning legacy castmembers.

The news comes courtesy of Deadline today. They note that Barrera fills a “key role.”

Ready or Not and V/H/S filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are resurrecting the franchise for Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures, from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, “Castle Rock”).

Kevin Williamson and the third member of the Radio Silence trio Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are part of, Chad Villella, are executive producing with Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak serving as producers.

The plan is for Paramount to release the untitled sequel in 2021.
