Newly-Announced Survival Horror Game ‘Tormented Souls’ Pays Homage to The Classics [Trailer]

For those gamers who are suckers for classics (which are most of us), developers Dual Effect and Abstract Digital have announced a new “classics-inspired” survival horror game that certainly deserves everyone’s attention. Tormented Souls will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam next year, and hearkens back to not only the “good ol’ days” of Resident Evil for the PS1, but also Silent Hill and the granddaddy of survival horror itself, Alone in the Dark.

The story for Tormented Souls has a woman named Caroline Walker investigating the disappearance of twin girls at the Winterlake Mansion. As these things go, Caroline ends up waking in the middle of the night, naked in a bathtub – and hooked up to medical equipment. Caroline must now explore the halls of Winterlake, all the while fending off the terrors that lurk in the mansion’s darkness.

Featuring the classic fixed-perspective of old, along with an admittedly cliché (but still cool) setting, Tormented Souls also utilizes a time travel aspect. Mirrors in the mansion provide a path to an alternate reality and another place in time. By crossing these shimmering gateways, Caroline can manipulate reality to her advantage.

And no, we don’t have tank controls this time.
