A game that takes place within a game? We haven’t run into many of these lately. Indie developer MrCiastku and publisher No Gravity Games look to turn the concept of a seemingly-abandoned FPS server and turn it on its head with Connection Haunted, which will launch September 3rd for the Nintendo Switch via the eShop.
Developed by a one-man team, Connection Haunted is a surreal story-driven psychological horror game under the guise of a nostalgic first-person shooter. The player takes on the role of the online game participant who upon connecting to the server for their first-person shooter, discovers that the server is empty. You go along with it until a mysterious Player 2 joins the game.
Connection Haunted “offers a rich selection of maps, weapons, and game modes that ensures replayability and a diverse set of challenges.” There’s no multiplayer, sadly (or is there?).
