Story-Driven Game ‘House on the Hill’ Features a House That Won’t Let You Leave [Trailer]

While Steppe Hare Studio’s upcoming House on the Hill might not necessarily have anything to do with William Castle’s classic film (okay, it’s House on Haunted Hill, but give me some slack), it certainly sounds like something story-driven horror gamers would be keen on checking out. The game recently released on Steam in Early Access, and has already garnered some positive buzz from those who’ve tried it out.

The story for House on the Hill has you as a down-on-his-luck thief who’s been convinced to take one last job and steal a rare jewel from an old mansion. The mansion just so happens to not want to let you leave, as every time you try, you end up back where you started. Escape takes on a whole new meaning for you now.

Featuring a non-linear path to your (attempted) escapes, House on the Hill gives you ample opportunity to explore the Victorian estate and uncover its secrets (as well as your own). The game features five stories that combine into one single narrative, with each one having their own horror genre. Psychological horror? Otherworldly horror? Those are here.

And spiders, too!
