“The Quintessential Slasher Film”: John Carpenter Seems Genuinely Pleased With ‘Halloween Kills’

John Carpenter always shoots from the hip, never one to say anything more or less than precisely what’s on his mind. So even if he’s a creative consultant, executive producer and soundtrack composer on the project, giving him a vested interest in its success, it’s pretty great to hear him hyping up next year’s Halloween Kills with what sounds like genuine excitement.

Carpenter had recently referred to David Gordon Green‘s sequel as “a slasher movie times one hundred,” teasing a massive kill count and also calling the film “brutal.” And in a brand new chat with Tony Timpone that took place this past weekend as part of the virtual Fantasia International Film Festival, Carpenter called Halloween Kills “the quintessential slasher film.”

It’s the quintessential slasher film,” Carpenter raved. “It is so intense…oh my god…it even stuns me how incredible it is. David just did a great job. Can’t wait to have you see it.”

Carpenter also noted that the music for Halloween Kills is complete. You can check out the full hour-long interview below, with the brief Halloween Kills talk beginning at 26:43.

The current release date for Halloween Kills is October 15, 2021, only in theaters.
