If you’re of an age, you probably remember Zombies Ate My Neighbours, the classic run and gun from LucasArts and Konami. While it technically received a sequel/spin-off in Ghoul Patrol, that wasn’t as well-received. Luckily, the folks at Tuned-Out Games are fans, as they’ve announced a spiritual sequel in Demons Ate My Neighbors!, a twin-stick co-op action game coming to Switch and PC via Steam on September 1st of this year.
Much like ZAMN, Demons Ate My Neighbours! utilizes cheesy horror motifs, and combines them with top-down action for one or two players. Unlike it’s inspiration, Demons has stackable power-ups and utilizes the aforementioned twin-stick control scheme. You’ll also have to track down and save people before they’re eaten.
The story goes that it’s a day in July back in the year 1991. Things are of the mundane sort for the sleepy suburbs of Fairweather Valley. That’s until a cursed VHS unleashes untold horrors upon the neighborhood, turns the residents evil, and generally making April & Joey’s summer a total bummer. It’s up to them to exorcise their neighbors from Hell, fight their way back to the haunted High School and rewind their summer to save the world!
