Yesterday, we told you about a mod for Amnesia: The Dark Descent that serves as a tribute to Silent Hill. Coincidentally (or not), there’s another mod in the works for Amnesia that brings another popular franchise into Frictional Games’ world: Dark Souls 3. Called Profaned Capital, the still-in-development mod takes a look at one particular piece of Dark Souls lore that is ripe for development.
The mod focuses on the eponymous Profaned Capital, which in Dark Souls lore, was formerly a prosperous city, but is now ruined and largely abandoned. The area exists in the game, but like a lot of content for the Dark Souls games, was trimmed down and feels unfinished. This is where the Amnesia mod comes in. The mod imagines what it would be like to explore those same ruins, albeit with an Amnesia twist: the ideas of sanity and despair, coupled with a decaying, isolated environment.
Here’s the rundown for the mod: Edward Hädelberg, once a successful archeologist, is hired by an oligarch from Prussia to find an ancient capital in the Nordryggen mountains of the Norway. Lost capital was believed to be fallen underground during the Titan Wars in Scandinavic lands millenniums ago. Legends state that a huge amount of treasure is hidden within the ruins of the capital. Edward accepts the offer of 10,000 Thallers and heads to the Norway. A mysterious and dangerous adventure awaits Edward as he progresses through the lost dungeons full of abyssal creatures.
At the moment, the mod’s creator, Rednie, stated that development was nearly finished. Hopefully things conveniently finish up for an October release.
Thanks to PC Gamer for the heads up.
