Christopher Landon Reveals Working Title for Third ‘Happy Death Day’ Film He Hopes to Someday Make

The Happy Death Day franchise is on hold right now, and whether that’s temporary or permanent is very much up in the air at the moment. Director Christopher Landon has made a brand new horror-comedy for Blumhouse and Universal in the meantime, with Freaky set for release in November. The trailer for the body-swap slasher was debuted just last week.

If you were thinking that Freaky looks to be set in the same universe as Happy Death Day, making it something of a “spiritual sequel,” well, you’d be quite right. Answering a fan’s question over on Twitter, Landon notes that “they certainly exist in the same Universe“!

And on the subject of Happy Death Day, Landon reveals in a brand new chat with Empire that he’s already got a working title picked out for the third installment he hopes to make.

It’s called Happy Death Day To Us. That is the working title,” he notes.

Landon also told Empire, “[Happy Death Day To Us] is definitely off to the side at the moment. I wish it wasn’t, and I know that [Jason Blum, producer] is passionate about it, I know I’m very passionate about it, and I know that [Jessica Rothe is really eager to do it as well. I wrote the idea for the third movie some time ago. I think we’re all excited by it, because it’s different than the other two films, and so we’re really just crossing our fingers and hoping that our fanbase continues to grow – which is something that I’ve really enjoyed watching over the years, seeing more and more people discover both films. So who knows. There might be a time when it makes sense, and hopefully it’s sooner rather than later.”
