Before Tobe Hooper and Steven Spielberg’s Poltergeist sent me into a traumatic tailspin, my introduction to horror came from the made-for-video movie My Pet Monster, which turns an ordinary kid into a superhero-like monster.
The live-action 1986 direct-to-video movie directed by Timothy Bond was an offshoot of the insanely popular American Greetings stuffed animal that let children obtain their very own pet monster (who came handcuffed with breakaway chains).
Even though My Pet Monster connects with us older horror fans, the character’s look is iconic and instantly recognizable, if not immensely lovable.
Funko Pop continues to dig deep into pop culture and will finally bring us a traditional-sized vinyl of the blue and purple people eater (he will also be available in the micro-retro line). No release date or pre-orders available as of this writing, but soon.
