While we wait for James Gunn‘s The Suicide Squad, we’ve learned today that HBO Max is developing a prequel spinoff centered on the origin story of John Cena‘s Peacemaker!
THR reports that Gunn will write all eight Season 1 episodes and direct several of them.
Cena’s Peacemaker will first be seen in next year’s The Suicide Squad.
THR notes, “Peacemaker first appeared in a 1966 comic published by Charlton Comics, which was later acquired by DC. The character of Christopher Smith is a man who “believes in peace at any cost – no matter how many people he has to kill to get it,” according to HBO Max, which announced the series Wednesday.”
“Peacemaker is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag,” Gunn said in a statement.
Executive producers include Gunn, Cena and Peter Safran (The Conjuring).
