Adapted back in 1940 by Alfred Hitchcock, Daphne du Maurier’s gothic novel Rebecca is headed back to the screen with a brand new adaptation courtesy of Netflix and director Ben Wheatley (Kill List, High Rise). Armie Hammer, Lily James and Kristin Scott Thomas lead the cast, and the trailer has debuted this morning courtesy of Twitter Movies.
Wheatley recently noted that the film is not a remake of Hitchcock’s movie, but rather a re-adaptation of the source material. You can check out the official trailer down below.
The story follows a newly married young woman who, upon arriving at her husband’s imposing family estate on a bleak English coast, finds herself battling the shadow of his deceased first wife, the mysterious Rebecca, whose legacy continues to haunt the house.
Bodyguard’s Keeley Hawes, The Handmaid’s Tale’s Ann Dowd, Control’s Sam Riley and Game of Thrones’ Ben Crompton also star. Jane Goldman wrote the screenplay.
Rebecca arrives on Netflix globally October 21.
