Very sad news this week, as BBC is reporting that Japanese actress Yûko Takeuchi passed away in her Tokyo home over the weekend. The actress was just 40 years old.
An investigation has been launched into the cause of her death, BBC notes.
Yûko Takeuchi made her feature debut in Hideo Nakata’s 1998 horror classic Ringu, playing ill-fated character Tomoko Ôishi in the terrifying opening sequence of the film.
The actress was subsequently nominated for “Best Actress” and “Best Supporting Actress” awards at the Japanese Academy Awards for her roles in the films Yomigaeri; Ima, ai ni yukimasu; Haru no yuki; and Fushigi na misaki no monogatari. She also starred in the films Innocent World, Night of the Shooting Stars, Heaven’s Bookstore, Closed Diary, Midnight Eagle, Golden Slumber, A Ghost of a Chance, Strawberry Night, Kidan Piece of Darkness, Creepy, and A Long Goodbye. Takeuchi recently played Sherlock in the TV series “Miss Sherlock.”
Takeuchi is survived by husband Taiki Nakabayashi and two children.
