30+ years later, Fred Dekker’s classic The Monster Squad, which pits a group of children against Count Dracula, The Mummy, Frankenstein’s Monster, The Wolf Man, and The Gill-man, remains a fan favorite.
Andre Gower, who played young Sean in The Monster Squad, celebrates the fandom with his fandoc Wolfman’s Got Nards, which tracks Dekker’s classic from flop to true classic.
The film has been making the festival rounds over the past few years (Patrick reviewed it out of Cinepocalpyse) and will now be arriving on VOD platforms October 27th, courtesy of Gravitas Ventures.
“This heartfelt documentary explores the power of cult film told through the lens of the 1987 classic The Monster Squad and the impact it has on fans, cast and crew, and the industry.”
Via EW, who premieres the final trailer: “Gower interviewed fans who turned up to attend screenings on a 30th-anniversary nationwide tour of Alamo Drafthouse theaters he undertook with costars Ashley Banks and Ryan Lambert.
“Wolfman’s Got Nards also includes interviews with Monster Squad-loving filmmakers like Adam Green (Hatchet), Joe Lynch (Mayhem), and Jackson Stewart (Beyond the Gates), as well as Adam F. Goldberg, creator of ABC’s “The Goldbergs”.
The site notes that the doc also boasts insights from director Fred Dekker and his co-writer Shane Black.
