With classic shows like “The Banana Splits” and “Fantasy Island” being turned into horror movies in recent years, it would seem that no property is safe from the cold, dead grasp of the horror genre. Which makes you wonder, doesn’t it? If we continue to head down this path, what could be turned into a horror movie next? A classic board game for kids, perhaps?
Merchandise designer Justin Bryant of 1126 Art Studio has put together a fun series of faux “What If?” movie posters that play with that very concept, turning family-friendly board games into twisted horror movies. It all began with “Blumhouse’s Hungry Hungry Hippos,” which inspired Bryan to pervert other board games with a horror twist. He explains, “Finishing [the Hungry Hippos poster] sparked the desire to explore this concept more, child games twisted into a scary/dark/horror theme, so I’ve turned it into a series and will continue to add to it.”
Bryant’s faux Board Game Horror movies include Tim Burton’s Candyland, Chutes and Ladders “from the director of Child’s Play,” SYFY’s Mouse Trap, and a Lovecraftian aquatic monster movie based on Don’t Break the Ice. You can check out the fun art below.
