It was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 that Marvel is bringing Blade back to the big screen in the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali taking over the title role. We haven’t heard much of anything about the future project outside of that initial announcement, with no writer(s) or director(s) attached at this time.
It would seem that the project is still in the very early stages, as The Hollywood Reporter notes that Marvel hasn’t yet found a writer(s) to tackle the vampire-slayer’s return.
“Current projects that studios are hoping to populate with Black behind-the-camera talent include Marvel’s Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali, which is looking for writers,” THR reports this week in a general overview article titled Hollywood Agents Navigate New Complexities of Balancing the Demand for Diverse Voices and Artistic Freedom.
We’ll report more on this one as we learn it.
The Wesley Snipes-starring Blade, meanwhile, comes to 4K Ultra HD in December.
