Focus Features and Amblin Partners won Halloween Weekend with their new monster movie Come Play, directed by Jacob Chase and based on his own short film Larry.
Come Play opened in 2,183 theaters within the United States this past weekend, scaring up $3.2 million to come in at #1 on the weekend’s box office charts.
Other horror films that made the Top 10 on Halloween Weekend include The Empty Man at #5 ($561,000), Hocus Pocus at #6 ($456,000), The Nightmare Before Christmas at #7 ($386,000), John Carpenter’s Halloween at #8 ($325,000), and Spell at #10 ($210,000).
According to Indiewire, Come Play is next coming to PVOD on November 20.
“Come Play stars Azhy Robertson as a lonely young boy who feels different from everyone else. Desperate for a friend, he seeks solace and refuge in his ever-present cell phone and tablet. When a mysterious creature uses the boy’s devices against him to break into our world, his parents must fight to save their son from the monster beyond the screen.”
Gillian Jacobs (“Love”) and John Gallagher Jr. (Underwater) play the parents.
