Announced last week on the road to Halloween, Danielle Harris is directing a new horror movie titled Sequel, billed as “darkly comedic” and an “all-female slasher.” Joe Dante (Gremlins) is producing the movie, and Harris spills some more beans in a new interview.
Speaking with filmmaker Mickey Keating for Instinct Magazine over the weekend, Harris provided some plot details for Sequel, teasing “the ultimate Final Girl horror film.”
“I’ve directed a film in the past, but now I’m directing a horror film that is the ultimate Final Girl horror film. It’s about Final Girls who have survived mass murders in rural areas who are going to come together for [the ultimate battle],” Harris told Keating.
“The girls are written — it’s fire. Imagine if all of horror’s Final Girls got together? Imagine if Heather Langenkamp was in a movie with other Final Girls? [That’s what this is.]”
James Moran (Doctor Who, Torchwood, Severance) wrote the script.
Danielle Harris had said last week, “I knew as soon as I finished reading the first act that Sequel was the perfect fit for me. I could finally bring all of my experiences in the horror genre behind the camera and into these exceptionally written final girl characters. I’ve been on the hunt for a story that had strong female leads and was intelligent and darkly comedic. I just didn’t want to do anything paranormal since we have enough real-life evil without having to go make shit up. If I’m going to spend the next two years of my life on a film, it has to be fun – and this story has it all. With Joe Dante and Mark Alan by my side, we’re gonna kill it.”
