After months of waiting, and an unfortunate decision to release the game as a digital download, Bethesda and id Software have announced that DOOM Eternal will be headed to the Nintendo Switch on December 8th via the Nintendo eShop. Panic Button are once again handling the Switch version, which given their track record with DOOM, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and Wolfenstein: Youngblood, fans should be in for a treat.
New to the Switch version of DOOM Eternal is Motion Aiming, which utilizes the built-in gyroscope of the Joy-Con, and can be used in conjunction with traditional aiming using the controller’s analog stick for “the perfect blend of immersion and accuracy.” Also included is BATTLEMODE, the two-versus-one online multiplayer mode that has a fully-armed DOOM Slayer facing off against two player-controlled demons, fighting it out in a best-of-five round match.
Unfortunately, the Switch version doesn’t look to include DOOM Eternal‘s expansion, “The Ancient Gods, Part 1”. But, there’s always hope that the standalone expansion will come to the Switch at some point.
DOOM Eternal is also available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC via Steam and Bethesda.net, and Stadia. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions are also planned for a future release.
