We’ve covered the fan-made Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition before, and the group behind it is back with another update that introduces a bunch of fixes and enhancements to the PC version of Silent Hill 2. The update not only fixes up some of the audio issues present in the game, but also includes some visual goodies, including upscaling the resolution of the game’s famous fog.
For the audio fixes, the patch eliminates the clicking sound when audio samples were interrupted, which is most noticeable when you scroll through a menu. Also, 3D positional audio has been added to the game. The map view has been adjusted for widescreen use, and new shaders have been added that allow players to make their own adjustments to the game’s brightness, SMAA antialiasing, and even colour temperature. The fog, a staple in the game, has had its texture resolution upscaled from 256×256 to 512×512, mirroring the PS2 version.
Lastly, the patch also fixes up some of the bugs that have been present in the game ever since its release.
Once again, in order to actually use this mod, you’ll need a copy of either the North American or European “Director’s Cut” of Silent Hill 2 on PC, as well as a few other mods that are listed on the group’s website.
