Joe Penna, director of the Mads Mikkelsen-starring Arctic, is next headed to outer space for the sci-fi thriller Stowaway, which has Anna Kendrick and Toni Collette leading its cast.
Daniel Dae Kim (Hellboy) and Shamier Anderson (“Wynonna Earp”) also star, and we’ve learned today via Deadline that Netflix has acquired “near-global rights” to the film.
Deadline adds, “Netflix will release the recently completed movie in the U.S., UK, Australia/New Zealand, India, Latin America, Africa and a host of other major markets in Asia and Europe.”
“Stowaway charts how, on a mission to Mars, an unintended stowaway (Anderson) accidentally causes severe damage to the spaceship’s life-support systems. Facing dwindling resources and a potentially grim outcome, a medical researcher (Kendrick) emerges as the only dissenting voice against the clinical logic of both her commander (Collette) and the ship’s biologist (Kim).”
Written by Penna and Ryan Morrison, Stowaway will hit Netflix sometime in 2021.
