Alfred Molina Will Be Back as Doctor Octopus in the Next Tom Holland-Starring ‘Spider-Man’ Movie!

Back into the Spider-Verse we go…

Worlds will collide when Alfred Molina, who played Marvel villain Doctor Octopus in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 (2004), reprises the role in the upcoming third installment of the Tom Holland-starring Spider-Man franchise. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news this afternoon, confirming scoops and rumors that had been popping up in recent months.

It was Raimi who cast Molina in the role of Dr. Otto Octavius for Spider-Man 2, and the actor subsequently voiced the character in the video game adaptations of the movie.

As THR notes, Spider-Man 3 will unite the various different live-action Spider-Man film franchises, with Jamie Foxx also set to reprise the role of The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s Electro.

Benedict Cumberbatch will also appear in the movie as Doctor Strange.

Jon Watts (Clown, Cop Car, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home) is back as director, with Sony releasing Spider-Man 3 on December 17, 2021.
