Hellraiser: Judgment director and special effects artist Gary J Tunnicliffe is reteaming with Pinhead actor Paul T. Taylor on the clown horror Coulrophobia, Bloody Disgusting exclusively learned this morning.
In the film…
“The perfect weekend getaway turns into a surreal nightmare and a fight for survival as a group of friends are pursued by an ancient evil in the form of four sinister clowns.”
“The simple intention is to do for clowns what Jaws did for sharks,” says Tunnicliffe. “This won’t be a campy, fun, comedy horror film – think about the craziest/weirdest moments of Hellraiser: Judgment [and] times that by a thousand, throw it into a blender with the original Evil Dead, Wrong Turn, Hills Have Eyes [among others], and you’ve got Coulrophobia.”
On reteaming with Paul T. Taylor, who played Pinhead in Hellraiser: Judgment, Tunnicliffe adds: “When it came to casting the lead protagonist, it was an easy choice with Paul. But this character won’t be the eloquent, regal character of the Hell Priest – this [will be] a visceral, sadistic killer who delights in his actions and the fear he instills.”
Tunnicliffe will also design and supervise all the special makeup characters, kills and effects with long time collaborator Mike Regan and some legendary crew: “I’ll be pulling in some favors from some ‘cream of the crop’ makeup fx heavyweights and delivering in your face ‘Grand Guignol’.”
Delco-Cut Productions and Nine Ten Films’ (Sick for Toys, Road Head) Jon Paul Burkhart, David Gunning and Larissa Garcia-Barb are producing (fresh from their Atlanta Horror Film Festival win) from a story by Burkhart written by Burkhart, Garcia-Baab and Tunnicliffe.
