Hulu Has Already Cancelled Marvel Horror Series “Helstrom” After Just One Season

The horror-tinged Hulu series “Helstrom” took a trip into the darker side of Marvel with its series premiere this past October, but we’ve learned we won’t be getting a second season.

Variety reports that Hulu has cancelled “Helstrom” after just one season.

The site’s report explains, “The move to cancel the series was not a surprising one, as “Helstrom” was the last live-action show produced by the now defunct Marvel Television unit under Jeph Loeb. The writing may have also been on the wall due to the fact that marketing materials for “Helstrom” — including its trailer and key art — did not include the word “Marvel” despite being based on Marvel comic book characters.”

In the 10-episode series, “As the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer, Helstrom follows Daimon (Tom Austen) and Ana Helstrom (Sydney Lemmon), and their complicated dynamic, as they track down the worst of humanity — each with their own attitude and skills.

Meagan wrote in her review of the first season, “The series falls back on standard possession horror with Satanic conspiracy, complete with fledgling Vatican agents, padded cell theatrics, and familiar exorcist clichés. It’s moody and ominous but superficially. There are glimpses of something more compelling buried in the usual, but the show hasn’t found its footing or identity yet. So far, it’s just a basic superhero twist applied to exorcism action-horror.”
