Another video has surfaced online showing off animation tests, concept art and more from id Software’s cancelled DOOM 4. The actual source of the footage isn’t known, which was posted to Reddit by user colonelmelnyk.
In case you’re not familiar, id had begun work on DOOM 4 as far back as 2007, and would take place on Earth following the events to DOOM 3. However, by 2013, DOOM 4 was stuck in development hell, and was eventually overhauled into the DOOM we got in 2016.
DOOM 4, which was criticized for being too heavily cinematic and too much like Call of Duty, has seen footage leak online before in much the same fashion. And you do see glimpses of what DOOM eventually came to be (namely in the executions and some of the animations), but the claim that it looked too much like something from Call of Duty is very much valid.
Currently, DOOM fans can enjoy the first part of the standalone expansion to DOOM Eternal in The Ancient Gods, which is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
