‘OH, The Horror’ Card Game: Players Decide How the Horror Will End

After being laid off due to the effects of the pandemic, three of the twisted minds behind Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights – Patrick Braillard, Nate Stevenson and Jacob McAlister – have come together to create a one-of-a-kind card game perfect for horror fans – “OH, The Horror”.

A Kickstarter is now live for the horror-themed card game, where you can become the “Death Dealer” and decide the fate of other players. Full instructions for gameplay can be read on the official website, or in the below imagery.

The campaign promises this to be “the most horribly hilarious horror card game ever!”

Patrick Braillard, former Show Director for HHN and Creator of Haunted Houses – such as “Stranger Things”, The Shining, An American Werewolf in London, The Universal Monsters, and more, said:

“I have always loved playing games set in the horror genre! ‘OH, The Horror’ is a natural extension of my love for those games and the genre as a whole. It has been such a joy creating the many monsters and maniacs that I have over the years, and now we get to hand over control to the audience (the players) and have them decide how the story is going to end. How bloody will it get? How ridiculous? How horrific? That is entirely up to the players. After all, we are constantly looking at this game as fans of horror first. What do we want to see? What would make us laugh? The answer is in the game.”

Adds Nate Stevenson, former Assistant Show Director for HHN, where he was responsible for aiding with the creation of haunted houses such as US, Poltergeist, “American Horror Story”, “The Walking Dead” and more:

“Game nights are a huge deal and occur frequently at the Stevenson house. I’d been thinking of ways to merge my love for games and horror for a long time but never had the time to dive into it until now. I pitched the game to Patrick and Jacob and, almost immediately, we were texting card ideas back and forth, making each other laugh so hard it hurt. It’s been an incredible experience creating and collaborating with these guys. We’re so excited to share it with the world!”

Jacob McAlister, former Concept Illustrator for Universal Creative, Halloween Horror Nights and more, talks about his designs for the card set:

“I wanted the game box and card designs to be minimal, straightforward forward and visually appealing, but I wanted it to look like they’ve been through hell and aged about 50 years. With the illustrations, I went with a style I’m comfortable with, but wanted it to stand out from anything else out there right now.”

Here’s a taste. Back the project at Kickstarter.
