Shudder Acquires Dramatic Revenge Thriller ‘Violation’ Ahead of Sundance

After World Premiering at TIFF, the Canadian revenge horror-thriller Violation (read our review), in which a traumatic betrayal drives a woman towards a vengeful extremity, is set to screen at the forthcoming Sundance Film Festival and it has been acquired by Shudder for release in 2021, Bloody Disgusting learned.

Madeleine Sims-Fewer and Dusty Mancinelli co-direct the film that also features Sims-Fewer in the breakout starring role as the woman, betrayed by a family member, who seeks out vicious revenge.

“With her marriage about to implode, Miriam returns to her hometown to seek solace in the comfort of her younger sister and brother-in-law. But one evening a tiny slip in judgment leads to a catastrophic betrayal, leaving Miriam shocked, reeling, and furious. Believing her sister to be in danger, Miriam decides she must protect her at all costs, but the price of revenge is high and she is not prepared for the toll it takes as she begins to emotionally and psychologically unravel.”

Meagan reviewed the film and wrote that “Violation approaches rape-revenge extremity with a deeply intimate portrayal of trauma.”

In the following clip, Madeleine Sims-Fewer confronts a man who is assaulting his significant other. She’s clearly hit a breaking point…
