‘Variant’ Looks Like China’s Take on ‘Aliens’ and the Trailer is Loaded With Monster Action [Video]

It’s pretty common for monster movie trailers to keep those monsters hidden, for the most part at least, but upcoming Chinese movie Variant is taking things in the complete opposite direction with its first official trailer. The sci-fi/action/horror movie’s trailer is absolutely *loaded* with monster mayhem, focused entirely on what we call “the good bits.”

Here’s the plot rundown for the Aliens-esque monster movie…

“It was told that Jamie, who was born in space, followed his parents in search of an unknown creature in the universe.

“After a long period of searching, the unknown creature was finally captured by the crew of the Thunder and named “Baal”. Under the lure of Baal, the young Jamie released it. “Baal” who escaped from the experimental tank killed all the crew and Jamie’s parents, and the young Jamie escaped back to Earth in an escape capsule alone.

“Twenty years later, a variant of “Baal” has now appeared on earth. Jamie must save mankind and find self-redemption.”

Liu Jingyu, Yang Shuting, Kai Er, and Mai Xiaolong star.
