Before we met Sadako in Ring and Samara in The Ring, the iconic horror tale began as a novel penned by Koji Suzuki, and another of his stories is soon headed to the screen.
Deadline reports that Requiem for a Dream filmmaker and star Darren Aronofsky and Jared Leto will reteam for Adrift, a film adaptation of a short story written by Suzuki.
“The story is set in the dead calm of the open sea, where a fishing boat discovers an abandoned yacht with a strange distress call. A deckhand agrees to take lone control of it while it’s towed into port, but soon he discovers why the rest of his more experienced crew members call it a Ghost Ship.”
“The package went out on the market early in the week and already has several buyers circling,” Deadline notes. At this time we have no idea which studio it will be landing at.
Aronofsky and Luke Dawson are writing the adaptation.
Jason Blum is producing the film for Blumhouse Productions.
