Hola, amigos. Welcome back to the World of Death! I know it’s been a while since I rapped at ya, but I’ve been working on this podcast I want to pimp out real quick. It’s called the On Wednesday’s We Talk Weird podcast and myself and my co-host Asherz talk about UFOs, drugs, magick (spelled with a K because we’re pretentious), and all kinds of other rad shit. Check it out… but not before you check out this month’s World of Death!!
First up we have ABI aka the Fight Club of computer virus movies. The short is directed by Timothy Troy, whom you may remember from his dolly grip work on Jupiter Ascending (the Channing Tatum cat ears movie), and written by Blake Armstrong, another filmmaker/sparky. How can you tell this is a movie written and directed by a couple of 134 electricians? The good guys try to save the day by turning the bad guy off and then back on again. The film looks dope AF though and was the proud recipient of the “Best Editing” award at the 2019 Hardcore Horror Fest in Hobart, Indiana.
Next up we have Violence of the Sun, which plays host to some of the most super-fun set designs I’ve ever seen in a film. The French call it Mise-En-Scene and whoa boy does this have it in spades. The film is written and directed by Bret Dorman, but we gotta take a second to give props to Jessica Avila, who handled the production design, costuming, and SFX. This cat knows how to dress a set. As for the plot, it’s set in the future where a robotic assassin squares off against a psychic Charlie Manson type, but with pizzazz! It’s so much fun to look at and the plot is just enough to keep things moving.
That’s it for this month! Hope y’all have a safe and healthy 2021.
