Legendary Entertainment is behind both the current U.S. Godzilla franchise and the Pacific Rim franchise, the latter of which was launched back in 2013 with Guillermo del Toro‘s movie that pit giant monsters up against giant human-powered robots. The film was followed by sequel Pacific Rim Uprising in 2018, which was also produced by Legendary Pictures.
As you may recall, Uprising director Steven S. DeKnight floated the idea of a Pacific Rim/Godzilla crossover movie back in 2017, noting at the time that it was a “theoretical possibility” that the Kaiju and Jaegers from the Pacific Rim franchise could someday be brought into the world of Legendary’s MonsterVerse. Who else wants to see that? Guillermo del Toro!
Taking to Twitter last night to comment on the Godzilla vs. Kong trailer, del Toro tweeted:
I personally love seeing the Neon, Sea battles, building demolition, etc because secretly -maybe- the PAC RIM Universe co-exists in the LEGENDARY Kaijuverse and, perhaps, one day they can rumble! https://t.co/VjcVhTgJgf

He subsequently made sure to note…
Talking only as a fan BTW – NO plans to return.

In response to del Toro’s tweets, Mike Lynch chimed in with his own fan-made mashup trailer that imagines Godzilla vs. Kong vs. Pacific Rim. It’s pretty awesome. Check it out below.
#GodzillaVsKong was missing something to me…perhaps a little #PacificRim? I think Jaegers would be in for a tough fight against these Kaiju. @GodzillaMovies @RealGDT pic.twitter.com/rsZksU7kuJ
